Attorney Lisa J. Schmidt, Family Lawyer

Attorney Lisa J. Schmidt of Schmidt & Long in Ferndale, Michigan

When you are faced with an unusual family law problem, you need more than just a divorce lawyer. You want an attorney with the training and experience to advise you of your rights within a changing legal landscape.

Focus on the Non-Traditional Family

The modern family is often far more complicated than it used to be. If your family includes step-children, half-siblings, or LGBT concerns, you need a lawyer comfortable with more than just a typical divorce. Family Law Attorney Lisa J. Schmidt has been handling non-traditional family law issues since 2010. She won the first Revocation of Paternity case in Wayne County, Michigan and was the first attorney to enter a Judgment of Divorce between a same-sex couple in Oakland County.

Knowledge and Expertise

Schmidt takes her commitment to legal education seriously. She was a top graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School (now part of Western Michigan University) in 2009. Since then, she has regularly attended the Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Solo & Small Firm Institute and Family Law Institute. She has also received extensive training in representing domestic violence survivors and the victims of trauma. All of this training ensures that Lisa is prepared to take on the toughest family and child law cases.

A Reputation for Excellence

Attorney Lisa J. Schmidt is well known among members of the local and state bar associations. She has participated in a number of community and professional conferences, as an attendee and as a speaker. She is also a published author on students’ rights and evidence issues at trial. She is highly respected by colleagues, opposing counsel, and judges. If your family or child law needs will bring you into court, you can trust that she will work hard to protect that reputation by providing excellent service.

Compassionate Representation

All the training that attorneys receive can sometimes leave them cold to the emotional needs of their family law clients. Attorney Lisa Schmidt remembers that each client is facing one of the biggest challenges in their lives. She runs a judgment-free office. Her compassion and understanding of the emotional side of family law ensures that you will be treated with courtesy and respect.

Giving Back to the Community

Lisa Schmidt has been a resident of Ferndale, Michigan since 2011. She serves on the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and regularly attends municipal and charity functions in the city. Schmidt also serves as the Secretary to the Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan. She has acted as a cooperating attorney for the ACLU in the past and continues to serve on the organization’s local unit and lawyers’ committees. Lisa is committed to the civil rights work of the ACLU and regularly attends functions statewide to further the cause.
